Unsung heroes of Pakistan

WE have many unsung heroes, and two of them are Hassan Sadpara and his brother Sadiq Sadpara who climbed K-2, Nanga Parbat, Brod Peak, G-1 and G-2 without oxygen. All these mountains are about 8,000 meter above sea level.

Hassan will scale new heights in mountaineering when he climbs Mount Everest without oxygen on May 5. It will be an honour for people of Pakistan, in general, and for the people of Gilgit Baltistan, in particular.
However, it is disheartening that this hero of our country has never been honoured, appreciated and recognised for conquering all mountain peaks in Pakistan.
He has never been patronised by the government and has achieved all the feats on a self-finance basis.
I once had a little talk with Hassan. He said foreign mountaineers honour him and try to learn the secret of climbing
mountains without oxygen. He has also been asked by foreigners about the privileges our government offers him.
But Hassan had no answer to this question by foreign mountaineers.
Unfortunately, he has never been in the spotlight either in print or electronic media. We should not forget our heroes. We should value them so that they can project our soft image to the whole world. If a person deserves some respect and honour, he should be valued because such people are our national assets.
